The goal of family sponsorship is to see that the families are reunited in Canada.

Who can sponsor?

  1. Canadian Citizen or a Permanent Resident
  2. At least 18 years old
  3. Residing in Canada (Exception: when a Canadian citizen outside Canada satisfies immigration officials that he will resume residence in Canada when the sponsored person becomes a permanent resident)

Who can be sponsored?

  1. Spouses, common law partners and conjugal partners
  2. Dependent children
  3. Children intended for adoption
  4. Parents, grandparents and their dependent children
  5. Brothers, sisters, nephew, nieces, and grandchildren who are orphaned, who are under 18, and who are not a spouse or common law partners
  6. Any relative, if the sponsor is alone in Canada without family members and has none of the above family members to sponsor.
